You may already have a more recent kernel than what is needed in the first step. I’m still learning Linux myself so based upon the original instructions being meant for 11.04 and you are at a more current version at 11.10 that is what I deduct.
At the terminal type ‘dkms status’ (without the single quotes) and post the output here. You may be able to just install the drivers without updating the kernel for it to work.

I have downloaded both the drivers but when I am running the first step in the terminal this is the result I’m getting..not able to understand why this is happening..could you help?

As long as you follow the simple steps indicated, it should fix your bluetooth problem. Assuming it is the same chipset.

I am using the same model laptop Dell Vostro V130 and have installed Ubuntu 11.10 on it….facing the same problem with bluetooth! Also I’m a new user to Linux so I’m not quite familiar with the technical details you’ve given in your post. Can you suggest how to fix this problem with regard to 11.10 version.

If you have a way of trying to connect wired instead of wireless, for troubleshooting purposes, then you could eliminate it being wireless connection issue. Also, while connected wireless, try changing it to a static IP with a preferred primary DNS of something like Google’s Public DNS IP of 8.8.8.8 and secondary DNS of 8.8.4.4.

So I am hopeful that I have found a solution in your post here, but I don’t get exactly what i am supposed to do. My setup is simply a cable modem in bridge mode wired into my Apple Extreme and wirelessly connected to the Xbox, no static IP. I get the MTU error. Any help would be greatly appreciated. By the way, I too am a Nole fan (Class of ’97, Marching Chief).

I rarely use my phone also as I absolutely hate talking on the phone. I definitely prefer text messages. But, I still think video calls are very cool. I tell my family that if they need to call me for long conversations to catch up on each other’s life I prefer to use Skype or Gtalk’s video chat. I especially like to do that with my sister so that I can see and talk to my niece and nephew whom I don’t get to see that often. I have found, especially with the family, that it works great as group conversation since I can usually see and talk to both my mom and dad at the same time or my sister and her kids at the same time. I’m trying to get them on G+ so that we all can use Hangout for a big group call.

I only use Google Chat for video conversations- the quality is great, it’s convenient, free, and doesn’t require a separate app open. I was an early iPhone adopter, but I’ve only used FaceTime on my phone a couple times. Video conversations just seem to be a bit more personal that the usual modes of communication via a smartphone, and I rarely use my phone at home.

Wait. So you can make a Skype call on the iPhone on the phone network (non-wifi)?
I honestly wasn’t trying to correct you. I was just stating that I made a call on Skype once on my Droid and thought it was really cool per the call quality.
I think I remember at one time you could not make any type of video call on the iPhone 4 unless you were on wifi. So you can now?

Thanks for correcting me Ed. I re-read my comments above and realized I erred on the Skype thing. It’s pretty cool for saving minutes if you’re not on a plan that has a ‘Friends & Family’ thing where you can add up to 10 numbers to call that won’t pull from your minutes.

I agree that it’s amazing what all these new smartphones can do now a days. What was considered something to develop one day has become reality now. I can only imagine what the future holds for us next.

I’ve got the iPhone 4 Ed. I chose it over an Android model at the time because of Verizon’s pre-installed apps that a user cannot get rid of unless the phone has been rooted. Not sure if Apple denied them this or not but after seeing my wife’s Incredible’s battery running down so fast from Verizon apps that could not be killed, I made my mind up pretty quick.

I like the Facetime function for keeping up with my family. My daughter and son in law both have iPhones so it’s become easy to see what the grandkids have been up to and chat with them. Thing is, it requires wireless for it to work so we have to make sure we’re close to that. Skype for the iPhone is the next choice for when a wireless signal isn’t an option.

I did the very same thing with Linux Mint & Win7 on my desktop. For many of the same reasons as you too. I’m actually using the Win7 partition as a ‘Library’ of sorts so that my wife can access photos, music and documents remotely from her laptop in another room thanks to the Homegroup feature. (She has Win7 too) She also is able to print from her laptop which makes things much easier for her with all the recipes she’s printing out for our daughter.

When she’s not home, I use the Linux Mint 11 partition to do most of my side work. I don’t need to tell you how much simpler things are with LM so I’ll leave that alone.

I have to admit though that I wish Macs were more affordable. So instead, I love how I can take a distro of Linux and put it on almost any PC and go to town with it. I’m good with that.

Mine’s pretty much the same way. Not a whole lot of traffic. Guess I’m mostly to blame for not promoting it very much but seeing as I don’t post that often, well, it sort of worked out.

Going to try the Desktop System Monitor on my LM 11 desktop. Hoping it will work as it’s a version newer. Guess I’ll find out. After that, will also try the ones for my Windows box.

Hello Ed! Think that’s how those sessions go anyway. Love this post. Found it on my Twitter stream and think it was RT’d by @Webupd8 if I’m not mistaken. In any case, I too am a tech geek of sorts and also like using Linux every chance I get. I’m currently using LM 11 as a dual-boot option on my Win7 box. Thanks for the old Twilight Zone episode. I just rented all of “Night Gallery” in hopes of finding this episode, I had forgotten about the revival of TZ.

Being a pulp collector/fan, seeing that Captain Future poster is what made me stop and watch the show while flipping channels. In fact, Captain Future pulps are not considered especially rare or valuable by pulp standards. I think you should be able to find an original on eBay for something in the $25 to $50 range for a mid-grade copy.

Here’s a question:

If EVERYONE gets fired, who’s gonna pay the bills?

No one will have a job and yet everyone still has expenses. So where does the money come from?

A bigger question is where is the money going that isn’t being used to pay people to work? How come all the money seems to have suddenly dried up?

I had a friend just get fired from Yahoo. Also, the company I’m contracting with just declared Chapter 11. Not sure what that means for non-employees.

Good music for this video.

When you pick up your HD camera get a tripod as well. And fix the focal length so the image doesn’t blur in and out. I like the rapid close up but the video was more impressive when you could see the entire scene at once.

I didn’t realize you lived so close to the Cape.

Next time they do a launch you better have HD video! 8^)

That is really cool! Nice touch with the music.

I’ve only seen one launch with the naked eye. It was neat, but not nearly as awe-inspiring as the one you recorded.

Good luck selling your cds. Ebay is a terrible source as there are former DJs online selling their collections and trolling for new collections they don’t want to pay anything for.

Speaking of paying nothing music stores are great of shoving empty cd cases up your ass on your way out of the store after taking advantage of you for the last 30 minutes.
“Sorry this only rings up as 50 cents.”
“Really. But you have a exact copy of that cd in the shelf now with a 10 dollar sticker on it.”
“Yes. That’s why it’s 50 cents. We already have a copy. If we didn’t it would be 51 cent. Besides you’re a desperate drunk looking to make some quick cash, and I doubt these cds are even yours. So take the 5 dollars for 60 cds you brought in and get the hell out of the store. You’re upsetting my hippie cool customers.”

Or so I’m told that’s how the process goes when selling cds at a music store.

So I wouldn’t bother with those jerks. Sell them to me. I’ll give ya 25 bucks for them all.
